Forces on scene

In Buffalo, NY, on the corner of Washington St. and Lafayette square, we find ourselves on the scene of an..well, an event.

The scene from South to North

Police are on scene, as well as an ambulance. From the reverse angle, it seems as though the paramedics are treating someone, and the onlookers on both sides of the street might imply that something is going on at the very moment the image was taken.

The scene from North to South

The mystery is, however, the fire engine parked on Washington St. It doesn't seem like a fire had took place, as more fire engines would probably be on scene, and a car accident is also unlikely, as wrecked cars are nowhere to be seen.

My guess would be that perhaps the firefighters were there in order to break into an apartment, where someone had been injured in some way and unable to open the door. No other scenario I could think of, will explain all the "findings" on scene. Any other guesses would be gladly accepted.

Tel Aviv 3D buildings

As reported by Frank Taylor in the Google Earth Blog, the 3D layer update of June 4th included more than only the Disney World, but other cities around the world as well. Apparently, Tel Aviv, Israel is one of these cities, with many new 3D models added, as well as upgrades of older models.

The first and most prominent of those models is surely the upgraded Azrieli Center:

Next skyscraper to have a new model is the Shalom Meir tower in Southern Tel Aviv, which upon completion was the tallest building in the Middle East:

Although in the neighboring city of Ramat Gan, the Moshe Aviv Tower is also worth mentioning, being the tallest building in Israel:

In this screenshot, clearly visible are two models of the tower, one probably being accidentally left in GE after the addition of the newer model.

This is, however, not the only "double appearance" in the area, as the Kirya Tower in Tel Aviv, occupied mainly by government offices, is also visible twice. The difference in the quality of both models is clearly visible, the older one also being misplaced:

As most GE news, this phenomenon has also been raised earlier by Frank at the GEB, the relevant building being the Hancock building in Chicago.

Next on our tour is the Tel Aviv shoreline hotels, now having quite a significant amount of 3D models there as well.

The screenshot above features the famous Tel Aviv Hilton hotel, while the next one shows many of the shoreline hotels: Carlton, Sheraton Moria, Crowne Plaza, Renaissance, Sheraton Tel Aviv, Dan Tel Aviv, King David Tower, Park Plaza Orchidea, Isrotel Tower and the Opera Tower hotels, nearest to farthest.

Last but not least, is the Tel Aviv city hall, with Gan Ha-ir complex behind it:

USS Ohio (SSGN-726) on the move

Here in north-western Washington, we can see the USS Ohio (SSGN-726) nuclear-powered submarine, making its way back to its home base at Bangor, WA.

USS Ohio (SSGN-726), the lead ship of her class of nuclear-powered fleet ballistic missile submarines, was the fifth ship of the United States Navy to be named for the 17th state. She was commissioned with the hull designation of SSBN-726, and with her conversion to a conventional missile submarine she was re-designated SSGN-726.

The submarine is being escorted by 3 US Coast Guard ships: a 110 ft. patrol boat to the north, a 87 ft. boat to the south, and a Reliance class cutter farther behind.

Introduction

Welcome to my Google Earth blog.

As a Google Earth user since 2005, I have come across many interesting locations, spots and finds. Some of these were posted on the Google Earth Community forums, by me or by others. With the steady flow of new imagery on Google Earth, now also coming in the form of Street View, the forums are just not a tool sufficient enough to host all the little things I'd like to. Therefore, the time has come to open this blog, which will allow me a free, unmoderated place to post my finds at.

This blog will probably go around my points of interest, which are naval and aerial warfare, aviation, sports, emergency services and Great Britain.

As blogspot does not, at this time, have the infrastructure for posting kml/kmz files (GE format), some of the posts will direct to their equivalents in the GEC forums, or to Google Maps instead.

I hope you enjoy this blog as much as I do. Feel free to leave your comments and suggestions in the comment box.

Sincerely,
